Should You Have Your Air Conditioner Maintained Now?

two-technicians-working-on-air-air-conditionerIt can be easy to dismiss the recommendation for annual air conditioning maintenance. After all, nothing is actually wrong with your air conditioner, so does it really need service at all? It’s never suffered a loss of cooling power–by all accounts, it’s working “just fine.”

But you shouldn’t settle for “just fine”! What if your air conditioner isn’t actually working as best as it could, and as a result is costing each month you more money than you should have to spend? We recommend maintenance because it helps prevent problems. We would love for you to never run into an emergency AC repair need, but the only way to help guarantee that is by taking proper care of the system.

What Maintenance Is About

Maintenance is an important HVAC service that allows our highly trained professionals to thoroughly inspect, clean, and adjust the components that need it in your HVAC system. This helps the system work as efficiently and effectively as possible.

We will do a thorough inspection of your entire cooling system, inside and out, checking for components that need adjusting, repair, or perhaps even replacement. The ultimate goal of maintenance is to improve the overall longevity and performance of your cooling system. We really can’t overstate the importance of this service.

When Should You Schedule Maintenance?

Our general recommendation for when to schedule air conditioning maintenance is right before you need your cooling system the most. So, early spring—right about now! Of course, we are still dealing with cooler temperatures, especially at night, for now. But it’s better to be over-prepared than underprepared, right? And, it’s actually not that important when you have it done as long as you have it done frequently—once a year to be exact.

Though if you have a heat pump system in your home that provides cooling and heating, you’ll want to schedule maintenance for this system twice a year, since it goes through twice the work of a conventional central HVAC system.

Improving the Comfort and Safety of Your Home with Maintenance

One of the main reasons we recommend that our customers stay on top of their annual air conditioning maintenance appointments is to maintain their household comfort. Over the years, air conditioners wear down and begin to operate not only less efficiently, but less effectively too. Components begin wearing down due to wear and tear, just like what would happen to your car if you skipped vehicle maintenance.

As far as safety goes, air conditioners are not dangerous by any means, but without professional maintenance you could run into potential safety concerns with your AC. Say you have a refrigerant leak, for instance. Whether in liquid or gas mode, refrigerant leaking into your property could lead to health problems. At the end of the day, there’s no good reason not to schedule routine air conditioning maintenance. It’s a low cost for years of savings.
